Videomaster Star Chess
A 1979 cross between a TV game and Chess. It plays a game of Space age chess for two players. While the game is an interesting variation on Chess, it is the design of the console which stands out. Brushed aluminium controllers, a 'Bang & Olufsen' inspired console, with lift up perspex lid.
The board is laid out in the same way as a standard chess board and the gameplay is based on the usual game but the chess pieces are replaced by space ships which are engaged in galactic warfare.
There is no single player option and the two players take turns moving their ships. There are some additions to the normal rules! You have the option to fire missiles at your opponent and you have shields and can get a damage status. If your damge is too high you can hyperspace to a randomly selected location on the board and to get more missiles you can return back to base.
The aim of the game is to destroy or capture your opponent's king, known in the game as the "Commander".
Our example is in excellent condition and is the Model VM14 with a serial number of 15398
The Videomaster Star Chess games console is said to be one of the rarest and most original game consoles ever produced!
